Landau Phystech School of Physics and Research, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology

Chair for "Problems in theoretical physics (Gor'kov theory group)"

based at Landau Institute for theoretical physics

РУС/ENG

How to join

A student can join the chair after the 3rd semester during the chair assignment at the Landau Phystech School of Physics and Research of MIPT. We take into account the marks got by the student for the courses that our chair organizes during the 2nd and 3rd semesters in the framework of the «Physics Horizons» project. Passed exams from the Landau theoretical-minimum series on Mathematics-I and Mechanics guarantee admission. One passed theoretical-minimum exam is an advantage. At the same time, student admitted without Mathematics-I should anyway pass this exam (before the 3rd year of studies starts).

Alternatively, a student can join the chair as a result of transfer from another chair or department of MIPT, having passed the following theoretical-minimum exams: after the 3rd or 4th semester — Mathematics-I and Mechanics; after the 5th semester — Mechanics and Field theory; after the 6th semester — Quantum mechanics.

Our students take three exams from the theoretical-minimum series during their initial three years (Mechanics, Field theory, and Quantum mechanics).

To be admitted at the masters-program level after the fourth year, one needs to pass the theoretical-minimum exams in Quantum mechanics and Statistical physics-I and an interview.

To be admitted at the PhD program, one needs to pass the theoretical-minimum exams in Quantum mechanics and Statistical physics-I and an interview. It is also necessary to obtain confirmation from a possible scientific advisor, who must be from the Landau ITP staff.
